Patient smiling after dental procedure - Dentistry Options Veneers vs Crowns

Veneers Explained

Veneers are a purely cosmetic dental procedure. As the name suggests, veneers are thin sheets, usually made out of porcelain or composite materials that fit over your natural teeth.

They can cover up cosmetic flaws such as cracks, irregularly shaped teeth, chips, staining, small gaps, and more. However, veneers are not suitable for addressing tooth decay. In fact, if your teeth are in poor shape, and their strength is compromised, this might eliminate you as a candidate for veneers.

This is because veneers need relatively strong, healthy teeth to attach to.

What’s Involved

If you want to get veneers you will need to consult with your dentist to find out whether you are a good candidate. If you are, the first step involved is sitting down with your dentist and deciding exactly what shape and color you want your veneers to be.

After this, you will need to attend an appointment where the dentist will reshape your teeth in preparation for the veneers. This usually involves shaving off a paper-thin amount of the tooth surface. After this, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth and attach a set of temporary veneers.

At the final consultation, the dentist will remove your temporary veneers, polish and etch your teeth, and adhere the permanent veneers.

The Cost

Veneers can vary in cost depending on what type of veneer you get. Composite veneers are the most affordable and usually cost between $250 and $2,500 per tooth. Porcelain veneers are longer-lasting, but cost between $900 and 2,500 per tooth.

Pros and Cons of Veneers

The main advantage of veneers is they offer a way for you to have a smile makeover without having to undergo orthodontic dentistry, which can often take years to complete. They can also eradicate the need for tooth whitening procedures because veneers are highly resistant to staining.

The veneers process is relatively quick and easy and allows for a semi-instant transformation.

As far as disadvantages go, one thing to think is that https://www.overnightglasses.com/ veneers are irreversible. Once you get veneers you can not go without them. Because some of the enamel of your teeth has been removed, they require protection from the veneers.

Fortunately, most patients who get veneers done by a good dentist are so happy with the results that they wouldn’t want to reverse the process.

Another potential con is that while they are a permanent procedure, you will probably need to replace your veneers every few years. Porcelain veneers typically last about 10 years.

After having veneers done, you might also experience some tooth sensitivity, however, this wears off for most patients in a matter of days or weeks.

Crowns Explained

Crowns are a very common dental procedure and roughly 15 million people in the US have either crown or bridge replacements.

Dental crowns are essentially caps that fit over damaged teeth or implants. Most of the time dentists use them to strengthen and restore teeth that have been weakened or eroded by decay. If you have had multiple fillings in one tooth, the next step is usually to get a crown.

Crowns can also be done on severely cracked teeth.

In some cases, dentists also recommend crowns for cosmetic reasons, but this is usually if there is a non-cosmetic issue also present in the tooth.

What’s Involved

Crowns typically require two visits to the dentist. During the first visit, the dentist will take X-rays and assess the state of your teeth. If there is advanced decay or risk of infection to your tooth’s pulp, your dentist might need to do a root canal first.

Next, the dentist will shape the surface of your tooth to prepare it for the crown. They will also take impressions of the area (or digital scans) including the surrounding teeth. After this, the dentist will attach a temporary crown for you to chew with while your permanent crown is manufactured in a dental lab.

Manufacturing of the crown usually takes around 3 weeks.

Once the crown is ready your dentist will permanently cement it in place.

The Cost

Dental crowns usually cost between $800 and $2,500 per tooth. However, exact costs can vary widely based on location and the experience of the dentist.

Pros and Cons of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a reliable procedure for restoring decayed teeth. Not only do they strengthen teeth that have been eroded by cavities, but they can also fix cosmetic issues.

Veneers vs Crowns: Which Is Right for You?

If you’re wondering which is better for you, veneers vs crowns, the answer will depend on your teeth. If you have a tooth that has advanced decay or multiple cavities, then a crown is usually the best solution.

However, if your teeth are relatively sound and healthy, and you just want to address cosmetic issues, then veneers can be a good option.

If a dentist recommends you get a set of crowns simply for cosmetic reasons, this should be a warning bell.

As veneers have been growing in popularity, a dangerous trend has sprung up where young people travel overseas to get “veneers” done which are actually crowns. This involves far more tooth removal than is necessary, and can seriously compromise healthy teeth.

Always make sure you consult with a trusted dentist before choosing between veneers vs. crowns.

If I could give Awesome Smiles negative stars, I would. My experience here was an absolute train wreck, and it all comes down to the rude and incompetent Patricia Viriato.

First, I was told I needed a deep cleaning, and this so-called "professional" had the nerve to claim my insurance would only cover a measly 20%. When I called my insurance directly, they informed me I was actually covered for 85%—what a shocker! When I confronted Patricia about her blatant lie, she just doubled down, insisting it was still 20%. It was like talking to a wall made of ignorance.

Feeling pressured and trapped, I reluctantly agreed to fork over $900 upfront, believing I could get reimbursed later. They even coerced me into making a down payment right then and there.

To make matters worse, my insurance denied the claim because Awesome Smiles didn’t even perform the necessary periodontal charting. Seriously, how incompetent can one office be?

When I returned to demand a refund, Patricia acted as if I was the problem. Her attitude was dismissive and infuriating. She couldn’t accept that she messed everything up. After I insisted on speaking to a manager, I was finally told they would process a refund—but honestly, it felt like they were just trying to brush me off.

Do yourself a favor and avoid Awesome Smiles like the plague. Patricia is a prime example of everything wrong with customer service—rude, uninformed, and completely unhelpful. Save your time, money, and sanity—go anywhere else!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Isabelle and Ana! They made me feel so comfortable during my visits, which was a relief since I was a bit nervous about the amount of work I needed done. They turned what could have been a stressful experience into a wonderful one, and I truly appreciate it. They also worked with my busy schedule, and the front desk staff was incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this place—everyone I interacted with was just fantastic!

My visits here have been great! Friendly, kind staff and they made me feel comfortable from the start to finish. The service quality is truly exceptional! I'm very happy with my visits! Dental assistant Manny is very attentive and kind!
The only exception is I wish if they promise incentives to their patients for bringing new patients that they would follow through on their promise.

I am literally the biggest baby when it comes to having to go to the dentist. I am just always so nervous and scared of any and everything. The staff and doctors at Awesome Smiles totally put me at ease. I felt greeted and like a VIP from the moment I walked in the door. Dr Isabelle Morris was my Doctor and she was very patient very understanding and kept me at ease the entire time. This has been my most memorable experience at a dentist's office and I feel encouraged to follow my treatment plan. I would definitely recommend this office and will be bringing my entire family here. Another great thing is their hours of operation 8am to 8pm so so convenient. Highly Recommended.. Latoya

I can't say enough about the fabulous experience I had with Dr. Michelle Luis. A true professional in every sense, she is compassionate, empathetic, and possesses a gift that immediately puts you at ease. Her treatment approach is truly collaborative, and she never pressured me to proceed until I was ready to do so. Her skill is unmatched, attention to detail is unparalleled, and - as someone who loathes visiting the dentist - possesses such a gentle touch, that I was never reminded that I was sitting in a dentist's chair. A finer dental experience I have yet to experience. If anyone were to ask, I would certainly recommend they see Dr. Michelle Luis as quickly as they can.

The team at Awesome Smiles provides a warm and inviting atmosphere, where as going to the dentist traditionally has a negative connotation. All of the staff members are friendly and easy to get a long with. In fact, they all remember my name without hesitation. They took good care of my brother and myself. They recommended me to do the Invisalign and I am really enjoying the progress thus far with my treatment and their care.

I called originally for my partner to get a Root Canal done as an emergency visit. Awesome Smiles, was extremely accommodating to get him in next day. Other dental offices were wanting Full Payment on the day of procedure. Awesome Smiles was willing to work with us on a strict budget, we didn't have to pay for the initial visit. My partner got the Root Canal done, and then we went back a week later for the Crown to be put on. The energy of the whole office is very upbeat and everyone makes you feel as though your NOT going to a dull and boring dentist's office. We would definitely recommend to everyone. A+++++++.

I highly recommend Awesome Smiles. I have an infection in my wisdom tooth and my consultation was completely free. Got a cheap script for antibiotics until I get all 4 of my messed up wisdom teeth taken out next week and they offer non credit check payments that are reasonable. Dental work can be super expensive but what they quoted me without insurance, I feel like this is a God send and probably the best price I’ve ever seen for what I need. Everybody there from reception (Isabella) to radiology (Jasmine) to my dentist Dr.Sunny was amazing and caring. I was a bit anxious going in cause of poor treatment by medical professionals in the past, but the low cost for amazing service put me at ease immediately and I look forward to going back.
